No Water Until Today For
Some 400.000 In San José
and Cartago
Some 400.000 people in
San José and Cartago are
still without water
since Friday monring
affected by a break in a
water main that was
caused by a private
company moving earth in
the area of Coris,
Cartago, according to
the water and sewer
utility, Acueductos y
Alcantarillados (AyA).
AyA spokesperson,
Rolando Rojas, said that
the problem has been
located and work crews,
with the help of Recope
welders, will be working
around the clock to
repair the break and
restore service as soon
as possible.
"We have already
determined the exact
location of the break
and the dimension of the
problem", said Rojas,
who assured that the
lack of the vital fluid
is not related to
maintenance work carried
out last weekend that
cut off water to 500.000
customers on Sunday.
The damage was caused to
a water main that
connects to the El Llano
dam.
The Aya said it would be
supplying water for four
hours to the areas
affected by the damage
which includ: San José
centre, La Unión de
Cartago, Curridabat,
Desamparados, Montes de
Oca, Goicoechea and
Vásquez de Coronado. The
AyA said it would be
using tanker trucks to
get water to places at
high altitudes as there
isn't sufficient water
pressure.
The water utility says
it hopes to have water
service re-established
to normal by the end of
the day Saturday. |
