Costa Rica's New Coach
Promises Happiness And
Spice
Costa Rica's national
soccer team "la
Selección" new
coach Rodrigo Kenton has
promised to bring
happiness and spice to
the team as they attempt
to qualify for their
third successive World
Cup.
"The principal objective
is to give the country
the happiness of taking
the national team to
South Africa 2010," he
told reporters.
"We are going to work on
the spirit of happiness
and spice that is
typical of Costa Rican
soccer.
"We will be looking for
the right combination of
players to bring out the
kind of soccer we are
looking for," he added.
Kenton replaced Hernán
Medford who quit after
his side struggled to
beat tiny Grenada in a
CONCACAF second
preliminary round tie
last month.
Costa Rica were 2-0 down
in the first leg before
scraping a 2-2 draw and
then winning the return
3-0. Medford also
suffered a 14-match
winless run which ended
with the win over
Grenada.
Costa Rica faces El
Salvador, Haiti and
Suriname in a group to
be played between August
and November. The top
two then progress to the
final round of CONCACAF
qualifiers next year. |
