Venezuela PDVSA Slams
Assets Freeze
The court order to
freeze Venezuelan state
oil company PDVSA"s
assets around the world
at the request of US
ExxonMobil Corporation
is outrageous, expert
David Paravisini said
Friday.
Interviewed by En
Confianza TV show,
Paravisini, a former
chairman of the
parliamentary Energy and
Mining Commission,
dubbed the ruling
abusive.
"That s a move by a
frustrated giant that
had taken oil for
granted," the expert
affirmed. He added the
request responds to a
cautious measure prior
to the ruling over a
dispute with PDVSA.
At the end of 2007, the
US group filed a claim
before the International
Centre for Settlement of
Investment Disputes
after it was forced to
withdraw from the Cerro
Negro strategic
association, operating
on the Orinoco oil
strip, for refusing to
become a joint
venture.
Paravisini said that a
measure of that kind,
which comprises assets
at about 12.3 billion
dollars, "has no
immediate effects on
PDVSA," but could affect
trustworthiness of
loans.
According to state owned
PDVSA, its total assets
around the world amounts
to 106.99 billion
dollars. |
