Bolivia Gets EU
Preferential Tariffs
La Paz - The European
Union extended until
2011 the Special
Stimulus System for
Sustainable Development
and Governance (SGP
Plus) that favor 16
countries, including
Bolivia.
Bolivian Deputy Foreign
Trade Minister Pablo
Guzman called the
extension example of
support to the Andean
nation that confirmed 27
agreements, including
those on human rights
and drug fighting.
The news rises as a balm
for Bolivian exporters
its comes few days short
of the suspension of
similar facilities by
the US and the 27-member
strong EU is a market of
500 million consumers
and may secure annual
sales worth $300
million.
Among the Bolivian
products in great demand
in Europe lie fine
textiles like alpaca and
vicuna, traditional
craftwork, leather and
food.
The SGP-Plus tariff, in
force from 2005-2015, is
renewed every three
years, and admits 7,000
tax-free products to the
EU market. |
