The Embajada de Estados Unidos (US Embassy) in Costa Rica is among the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) list of deadbeats, owing the social security some ¢500 millones of employee benefits, according to Roberto Salazar Mora in his letter to the ministra de Salud (Health minister), María Luisa Ávila.

"With the respect you deserve, I request that you make the necessary arrangements to get the Us Embassy to pay the monies it owes the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social with respect of employee benefits payable by the employee", sad Mora in his letter.

Mora sent the Health minister the letter saying that the requests made to the Caja board of directors have fallen on deaf ears and is asking for the intervention, calling the directors stall as a cancer affecting the "beloved Caja" that the board, instead of working to strengthen the social security system, does nothing to the effect.

According to the official, the US Embassy in San Jose owes the Caja ¢ 578.970.219 colones.
