BOGOTA - Colombian
drivers on strike
nationwide for higher
pay lower fuel costs
continue to affect
supply and exports.
Agriculture Minister
Andres Felipe Arias said
they will use police to
stop the incipient food
shortage and damage to
exports, like the
180,000 sacks of coffee
for export blocked in
Buenaventura port.
The Federation of
Poultry Producers
informed that nearly 45
million birds for
slaughter and 24 million
laying hens are
threatened by food
shortage while tons of
feed are stranded in
Buenaventura, Santa
Marta and Barranquilla.
Jorge Lozano, president
of the Association of
Coffee Exporters (Asoexport),
called the leaders of
the Association of
Colombian Drivers (ACC)
and the government to
reach an agreement as
soon as possible due to
the strike’s impact on
exports.
But ACC President
Nemesio Castillo said
they will not go back to
work until the
government and business
sectors are willing to
find a solution to end
the crisis.
