Orotina Celebrated Its
100th Birthday
The town of Orotina was
in full "fiesta"
yesterday as the
Alajuela town celebrated
its 100th birthday. For
the occasion, the
government held its
weekly Consejo de
Gobierno (cabinet
meeting) in the town, as
Costa Rican president,
Oscar Arias and his
ministers, joined
residents in the
festivities.
During the cabinet
meeting, Orotina mayor,
Emilio Rodríguez Molina,
took out his list of
needs of the community
and took the time to
thank president Arias
for all the support
Orotina has received
during his first two
years of administration.
one of the requests made
by Rodríguez to the
government is the urgent
repair of the roads
around Orotina, the
construction of new
bridges to replace some
of the "hammock" bridges
around the community and
the posting of a
permanent Tránsito
(traffic) official for
the town to control
traffic and reduce
accidents.
Amid the pleasantries
and andulation's thanks
was given to the
government of China's
donation of ¢200 million
colones that will be
received by the
municipality of Orotina
and the need to build a
24 hour "modern" clinic
for the community.
The ministra de Obras
Públicas y Transportes
(MOPT), Karla González,
announced the widening
of four bridges over the
rivers Machuca, Quebrada
Norte, Quebrada Vargas
and Quebrada Chavarría.
The curious was that
when the fireworks were
lit, at exactly twelve
noon, it caused some of
the ministers and
government officials to
become nervous... for
which the reason was not
clear.
