Bus Fare Hike Approved
Next Wednesday the price
of gasoline goes up at
all pumps around the
country and so will bus
fares, as the Autoridad
Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
yesterday approved
increased fares on 723
routes in the country.
The increase ranges from
¢5 colones to ¢770
colones and will take
effect next week once
the approval is
published in the
official government
publication, La Gaceta.
The reasons for
approving the increase
requested by bus
operators is to cover
increases in the cost of
salaries, rising fuel
prices, parts and
maintenance for the
buses and general
administrative costs.
Bus operators have been
hardest hit by the rise
in the price of diesel
fuel, almost double of
the price this time last
year.
The last time bus
operators were able to
raise their fares was in
February.
