Denounced
GUATEMALA - The most
Guatemalans nutritional
situation is critical
today and endangers the
future of the nation,
denounced The Human
rights Ombudsman Sergio
Morales while handing
over the government a
report on the issue.
According to the
conscious Judge the
effects of the energy
crisis and prices
increase of basic grains
in the international
markets have been added
to the historical
poverty suffered of over
half of this people.
They also noted that
many of the best lands
are used in
non-essential
cultivation like the
African Palm instead of
using them for producing
food of internal
consumption.
Morales gave Vice
President Rafael Espada
the results of a
research of that entity
in which it detailed
food backwardness and
how rice in price showed
a rather encouraging
panorama.
If urgent measures are
not taken the future
generations will have
serious consequences due
to chronic malnutrition,
emphasized the People
Ombudsman.
Guatemala is first in
children Malnutrition in
the continent and fourth
worldwide, said the
Human Rights Ombudsman
when he submitted his
document.
The Presidential
secretary of Food
Security Juan Aguilar
recognized that the
situation is the result
of decades of lack of
attention to poorest.
He assured that he is
working to locate the
most affected
geographical areas to
allocate the necessary
resources to them.
