Venezuela Rejects U.S.
Congressmen Attacks
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez has rejected
attacks against his
government by
congressmen of the U.S.
Republican Party, local
media reported Friday.
The House of
Representatives
Subcommittee on the
Western Hemisphere held
a hearing Thursday to
analyze the crisis
between Colombia and
Ecuador.
Jose Miguel Insulza,
general-secretary of
Organization of American
States (OAS), told U.S.
lawmakers during the
hearing that there is no
evidence linking
Venezuela to terrorist
groups. But his remarks
were questioned by the
lawmakers.
Chavez said the
congressmen are trying
to impose "ephemeral
views" by suggesting a
connection between the
Venezuelan government
and terrorist groups.
Ecuador broke off
diplomatic ties with
Colombia on March 3 to
protest against the
latter's March 1
military attack on a
FARC (the Revolutionary
Armed Forces of
Colombia) base in
Ecuadorian territory.
