Felix to Hit Honduras
Coast Tuesday
Hurricane Felix,
upgraded to category 2
storm on the Saffir-Simpson
scale, might hit the
coast of Honduran
Mosquitia Tuesday
strengthened to category
3, the National
Meteorological Service
SNM reported Sunday.
Felix, the second
hurricane of the
Atlantic hurricane
season, was moving
west-northwest at about
18 mph and with maximum
sustained winds of 100
mph, according to SNM.
SNM specialist Carlos
Canales explained
torrential rains might
exceed two inches.
Hurricane Felix still
has to pass the area
called "hurricane
cemetery" south of the
Dominican Republic,
where these storms
generally weaken.
However, he added, if
there is no obstacle in
its way, it will
strongly slam into
Guanaja Island upgraded
to a category 3, leaving
intense rains all along
the Caribbean coast of
Honduras before it plows
into south Belize
Wednesday.
Felix, only a tropical
storm on Saturday,
lashed into Grenada
leaving heavy rains and
winds, and lots of
