Health Ministry Warns Of
Dental Whitener Sold
Without Permit
The Ministerio de Salud
(health ministry) is
warning of a dental
whitening power sold in
Costa Rica that does not
have the required health
permit and could cause
health problems is used.
The product is called "Denta
Fresh" and of Colombian
origins that is being
sold at bus stops or
door-to-door in San
José.
The vendors of the
product promise that the
it will remove stain,
eliminate plaque and bad
breath and only for ¢700
or two for ¢1.000.
The director of the
Oficina de Registro y
Controles del Ministerio
de Salud, María de los
Ángeles Morales, assures
that the product is not
registered and the make
up of the product is not
known nor are the risks
for using it.
Authorities have begun a
confiscation of the
product, although the
product can still be
purchased at various bus
stops in the downtown
area.
Morales explained that
the process of
confiscation is
complicated as the
vendors are informal and
are not fixed in one
location.
Worse yet, the vendors
are telling customers
that the product is
authorized by the
Asociación
Latinoamericana de
Odontología y el
laboratorio Profaco de
Costa Rica and it can be
purchased in local
pharmacies (at a higher
price), which is a total
lie according to the lie
according to Ministerio
de Salud officials.
