BCR Issues "Phishing" Alert
If you are a customer of the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR), take note.

BCR customers are again target of "phishing" emails - emails that solicit the respondent to click on a link to update their account information.

The link is actually a page not of the bank and is used to obtain information by the scammers to access the account.

The BCR has made it clear that it does not solicit its customers personal information by email or by phone and customers should not respond to any such emails and can call the bank's customer service at 506 284 6600 for any assistance.

Last week the Sala IV or Constitutional Court rejected an appeal by a customer who demanded that the bank be responsible for the money taken from his account by scammers. The court said that the customer should file a criminal complaint with the Fiscalía (prosecutor's office) and that the bank was not responsible for the loss.
