Heavy Rain Advisory For
The Next Several Days
The Instituto
Meteorológico Nacional (IMN)
- the national
weatherman - advises of
a low pressure system
that will affect the
Pacific and Central
Valley with heavy rain
and strong winds.
The IMN says not to
forget the umbrella as
the rains begins to fall
on Puntarenas,
Guanacaste, Cartago,
Heredia, Alajuela and
San José. The low
pressure system will
also bring cooler air
and jacked is advised
for the Central Valley,
especially for the
evening and early
morning as the
temperature is expected
to dip below normal.
The IMN says that the
heavy rains will last at
least three days and the
- Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) -
national emergency
commission - is asking
residents of low lying
areas and near rivers
and creeks to take
preventive measures.
The advisory is for all
areas of the country
except for the Caribbean
coast.
This season, low
pressure systems more so
than the effects of
hurricanes have been
responsible for most of
the heavy rain and
strong winds that have
caused flash flooding
and damage to hundreds
of homes.
In Cartago last week,
more than 200 homes were
damaged, some completely
by ragin waters
overflowing their banks.
Some 35 people are still
housed in temporary
shelters.
October is one of the
worst months for rain
and this year the IMN is
predicting that the
"rainy season" will
continue well into
November.
The IMN has issued an
advisory warning for the
