UCR Poll Reveals High
Consumer Confidence
An opinion poll by
conducted by the Escuela
de Estadística y Centro
de Opinión at
Universidad de Costa
Rica (UCR), reveals that
72% of Costa Ricans are
confident that their
family income will
increase over the next
12 months.
That is the primary
result of the sixth
consumer confidence
opinion poll.
In addition 42 out of
every 100 polled are
confident that their
income increase will be
greater than that over
the past year.
The results reflect an
increase in consumer
confidence which has
reached 55.7%, the
highest level reached in
many years. Just three
months ago consumer
confidence was pegged at
49.9%.
The results are
generalized as it takes
into account all sectors
of the population. In
fact, the most poor are
the ones that have more
faith in increasing
their income.
The poll also revealed
that those who support
the Tratado de Libre
Comercio (TLC) - free
trade agreement with the
United States, Central
America and the
Dominican Republic -
have a higher level of
consumer confidence that
that those who voted
against the trade deal.
The poll was taken
between November 2 and 8
and took in the
telephone responses of
702 heads of families.
Johnny Madrigal, UCR
investigator, said that
there has been a
increase in the positive
opinion on the current
government
administration.
The UCR investigation
reveals that only 13 out
of every 100 Costa
Ricans are pessimistic
on the direction of the
national economy. |
