Guatemalan deputies
resume the plenary
sessions Wednesday,
after a long electoral
recess in which the
legislative agenda was
at a standstill.
The president of the
executive board, Ruben
Dario Morales, called
for parliamentarians to
accomplish their tasks
and take advantage of
the remaining time in
their post to discuss
and pass important
national laws.
Among them, there are
some vital for the good
performance of the
future government, such
as the approval of the
2008 budget, and
enlargement of the
temporary aid tax on the
Peace Agreements.
Without these
regulations, the
executive led by Alvaro
Colom, who will take
office on January 14,
would face serious
difficulties to finance
the initial stages of
his working program. |
