Heavy Rain Displaces 60
in Northern Zone and
Caribbean
While the
rainy season is leaving
the Pacific North and
Central Valley, the
Northern Zone and
Caribbean were hit by
heavy rains and
flooding, forcing some
60 people to seek
shelter.
The Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) -
national emergency
commission - yesterday
issued a "yellow" alert
for the province of
Limón and the areas of
Upala, San Carlos (Cuidad
Quesada), Los Chiles and
Guatuso in the province
of Alajuela, and the
areas of SSarapiquí de
Heredia, which form part
of the Northen Zone.
The CNE says that a cold
front blowing in from
Nicaragua has produced
cloudy skies and rain.
This comes one day after
the CNE has removed all
alerts in the country as
the rainy season is
being ushered away by
the dry or summer
season, which according
to the national weather
service, is on schedule
and not delayed by two
weeks as had earlier
been predicted.
The Ministerio de Obras
Públicas y Transportes (MOPT)
confirmed in a statement
yesterday that the
bridge over the Santa Fé
river that runs from San
Carlos to Aguas Zarcas,
was damaged, For now the
road is closed to
vehicles and alternative
route, only for light
vehicles, was created
while the bridge repairs
are made. |
