Guatemalans Nix Ex-Dictator in Vote
Guatemalan social organizations presented an
appeal against the decision of Citizenship
Enrollment to accept former dictator Efrain Rios
Montt as candidate to deputy in the next
elections.
"Registering a fugitive sets a serious
precedent," expressed in a press-conference Aura
Elena Farfan, from the Association of Relatives
of Detained Disappeared in Guatemala (FAMDEGUA).
He affirmed there is an arrest warrant against
former general for genocide.
Association of Justice and Reconciliation AJR
President Antonio Caba declared Rios Montt must
be judged, instead of being accepted as
candidate to deputy.
He recalled besides the process in Spain, a
lawsuit was presented in Guatemala against the
dictator for crimes against humanity, which has
not progressed because of the lack of will of
authorities.
