Frontier Airlines to Start Costa Rica Service
Frontier Airlines said Tuesday it will start
service to Costa Rica in November, adding to its
stable of international resort destinations.
The U.S. Transportation Department has approved
Frontier's route between Denver International
Airport and Juan Santamaría (San José)
International airport in Costa Rica.
The Denver-based airline serves eight Mexican
resort cities including Cancun and Puerto
Vallarta as well as two cities in Canada.
Service to San José will begin Nov. 30 with
round-trip flights scheduled on Monday,
Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Frontier's stock dipped 6 cents to us$6.26 a
share in early trading.
Frontier is the second-biggest airline at
Denver's airport behind United Airlines,
offering service to 58 destinations in the
United States, Mexico and Canada.
"Frontier's entry into the U.S.-Costa Rica
market will expand new service options available
to the traveling public and will stimulate
additional leisure travel," the Rocky Mountain
News quoted the carrier as saying in its
application.
Frontier spokesman Joe Hodas says: "Costa Rica
is a popular destination, and we've had great
success in Mexico, so this would kind of just be
the next logical step here."
