Rain and More Rain Forecasted
Cancelled local flights, inundated highways and blocked roads due to mudslides are all the result of the heavy rains that have fallen over most of Costa Rica over the last couple of days, intensifying the work of the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) - national emergency commission.

The CNE on Sunday put a "green" alert for most parts of the country, as the constant and sometimes heavy rain, has swollen river banks, caused mudslides and sewers to back up,

In more humble areas like Alajuelita and Desamparados, soutside of San José, the broom is one of the most valuable household tools as it is used to sweep away the water in some homes, water from the rain and storm sewers that have Health officials concerned.

Areas like Aserrí and the southern part of Desamparados are some of the worst areas affected by the rain, as many have built their homes on low ground, on the sides of rivers and the sewer pipes full of debris and accumulate garbage from the dry season, cause contaminated waters to back up and into people's homes.

"Nublado con lluvias y tormentas" (cloudy, rain and thunderstorms) are being called for the Central Valley right through to Sunday, with some sunshine for Thurdays. The rest of the country is pretty well the same, except for the Caribbean and Norther Zone where some sunshine will prevail for today and tomorrow and then to lots of rain.

Notwithdstanding the rain and lack of sunshine, temperatures remain seasonal with a high of 28C and 29C and low of 18C and 19C in the Central Valley, hotter in the coastal areas, like the North Pacific (Guanacaste) where high day temperatures is 34C.

The heavy rain is worrying because we are just coming into the season with six months to go before the return of the dry season.

in San José, the CNE is maintaining a vigil in communities like the Bajo de los Anonos that separates la Sabana and Escazö, Villa Esperanza de Pavas and La Carpio, humble communities and "precarios" (shanty towns)  located along major rivers.
