Costa Rica received a us$40-million
loan from the World Bank and a us$10-million
donation from the Global Environment Fund, both
destined to the preservation of nature.
The Government of Costa Rica will add us$50
million to the funds, a condition of the World
Bank to provide the loan.
The local funds come from a tax levied on fuel
to pay for environmental services and to the
reduction of gas emissions.
The Minister of the Environment Roberto Dobles
said that this project enables Costa Rica to
better preserve its biodiversity, to strengthen
the connection between protected areas, to
improve sustainable forest activities, and the
participation of women as owners of forested
land.
