Call for Bids on Liberia Airport
Expansion Pushed Into April
The Costa Rica's public
transport ministry - Ministerio
de Obras Públicas y Transportes
(MOPT) - has postponed until
April the call for bids on a
US$16 million dollar contract to
add a 15,000 square metres
terminal to Guanacaste's Daniel
Oduber International
airport in Liberia.
A document further detailing
plans for the airport will be
released by the end of the
month, the official said.
The call for bids was originally
scheduled for March 19, and
according to the original plan,
the government would award the
contract to build and operate
the new terminal by midyear, in
order for construction works to
kick off in January 2008 and
finish in a year.
In the second stage, an
additional 12,000 square metre
terminal is expected to come
online in 2011, and the
airport's landing strip will be
expanded.
The new terminal will be
designed to accommodate civil
aviation authority DGAC's
estimation of 10% average annual
passenger growth over the next
five years.
The amount of international
passengers handled in January
rose 20% year-on-year.
