Ophthalmology Centre Opened in Panama
President of Panama, Martin Torrijos, and Cuban Foreign Minister, Felipe Perez Roque, inaugurated an ophthalmology center donated by Havana, as part of bilateral collaboration in the field of health.

During a ceremony in the western Panamanian city of Santiago de Veraguas, Perez Roque said the facility was named after the architect of the devolution of the Panama Canal, Omar Torrijos.

This is a historic day, and we are sure that the Cuban medical team, with their professionalism, their commitment and effort, will pay tribute to the memory of Torrijos, who defended our people´s self-determination, he stressed.

He added that Panamanians will see first hand the values of the Cuban Revolution in the Cuban physicians.

We inherited Jose Marti´s principles, as he proclaimed that homeland is mankind.

Perez Roque explained that in two years, Operation Miracle, promoted by Cuban President Fidel Castro, has benefited more than 500,000 Latin Americans and Caribbeans, including about 5,200 Panamanians.

He also said that 500 Panamanians youngsters are studying in Cuba, 400 of them Medicine.

Meanwhile, President Martin Torrijos highlighted the example, solidarity and fraternity, as well as "the everlasting friendship of the Cuban people with Latin America and Panama."
