European Union, Central
America Talk Free Trade
Representatives of the
European Union and
Central American nations
have officially began
negotiations aimed at
reaching a free trade
agreement, EU sources
reported Thursday.
According to a text
released by the EU
executive, the members
of the European bloc are
now meeting in Brussels
with Costa Rica, El
Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras, and Nicaragua,
and Panama is expected
to join when it enters
the Central American
Economic Integration
System (SIECA).
In her speech at the
official opening of the
process, European
Commissioner for
External Relations
Benita Ferrero-Waldner
said this is key for
relations between the
two regions.
The treaty that should
follow the talks, she
added, will favor the
increase of goods,
services, and investment
exchanges. |
