Guatemala, Next President of SICA
The Government of Belize will hand over the presidency pro tempore of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to Guatemala during the 30th Summit to be held in Belmopan, the Belizean capital, on June 29.

The meeting will focus debates on the Puebla Panama Plan, designed to promote regional integration and cooperation mechanisms.

Presidents Antonio Saca (Salvador), Manuel Zelaya (Honduras), Felipe Calderon (Mexico), Daniel Ortega (Nicaragua), Oscar Arias (Costa Rica), Martin Torrijos (Panama), Oscar Berger (Guatemala) and Leonel Fernandez (the Dominican Republic) are expected to attend the meeting.

According to the agenda, the presidents will first review the situation of SICA and in the afternoon, they will take part in the Ninth Summit of Tuxtla (a mechanism created in 1991 to collaborate on infrastructure, energy and the struggle against poverty).

Two declarations, scheduled to be prepared at a prior foreign ministers' meeting (June 28 in San Pedro, in the Belizean Caribbean), are expected to be signed at the end of the summit.

SICA was created in December of 1991 and became officially operational on February 1st, 1993. It is currently presided over by Prime Minister of Belize Said Musa.
