Guatemalan Women Organizations Threatened

Organizations in Guatemala denounced serious
threats against them for their work in defense
of women s rights.
"They want to stop our work to restore the
dignity and help recover victims of sexual
violence during the armed conflict," assured
members of Actresses of Change Coalition.
A release by National Union of Guatemalan Women
and the Team of Community Studies and Spycho-Social
Action say that threats and murder show
persistent terror, which is encouraged by
impunity for the perpetrators.
The organizations urged the government to run a
probe and meet its obligation to defend respect
citizens rights.
