Nicaragua Takes on Dengue Fever
Nicaragua Health Ministry MINSA urged people to cooperate with the brigades of sanitation and fumigation to fight the mosquito transmitter of dengue fever, to prevent the disease from spreading.

"It's important to let our sanitation brigadiers enter houses to do their job. Please don't close doors when fumigation trucks pass, because the situation could worsen," alerted Epidemiology Director of MINSA Juan Jose Amador.

The official assured at a press conference offered this weekend that during the first two quarters of 2007, 322 classic dengue fever-infected people and 35 infected with the hemorrhagic type have been detected, with three dead so far.

Amador added health authorities major concern is the appearance of dengue fever in type 3 seropositive people, the worse of the four types of dengue according to experts.

In an effort to avoid the epidemic, MINSA have trained 50,000 people and distributed 290,000 kg of chemicals as part of a campaign to fight mosquito Aedes Aegypti breeding grounds.
