Nicaragua Recalls Toxic Toothpaste
Nicaraguan Health Ministry authorities (MINSA)
are searching for toothpaste that could be
contaminated with diethylene glycol, which is
toxic to humans and animals and recently a
hundred people in Panama died by ingesting in
medications.
To facilitate the operation, MINSA is replacing
toothpaste brands Mr. Cool, Excel, Dentamint,
Mentamint, and others of Chinese origin, at
locations created for this purpose.
About 144,000 toothpaste tubes have been
recovered so far, but according to Julio
Caldera, director of the Managua Integral Health
Assistance, at least 72,000 remain loose in the
population.
