Honduras, Thousands
Infected by Dengue
The spread of dengue in
Honduras has infected
more than six thousand
persons during this
first half of the year,
health authorities
admitted.
To date the classic
variety continues
constant as compared to
last year with six
thousand 38 affected
while the hemorrhagic
strain surpassed figures
of the previous year
with 297 cases, informed
Lenin Quezada, head of
the National Anti-Dengue
Program.
Regarding this latter
form, the most
dangerous, Quezada
confirmed the death of
six Hondurans and a
mortality rate of 1.6
percent although red
alert has not been
called yet until it
reaches five percent, he
explained.
Different institutions
and organizations of the
country did work on
fumigation, clearing of
areas and promotion of
preventive measures
against the transmission
agent, Aedes aegypti.
Local radio stations
reported this weekend
that U.S. ambassador,
Charles Ford, was sent
to hospital with
hemorrhagic Dengue.
The main outbreaks in
Honduras are in
Tegucigalpa and San
Pedro Sula, about 300
kilometers from the
