Visit to Panama Very
Positive, Says Cuban Top

President of the
National Assembly of the
People's Power (Cuban
Congress), Ricardo
Alarcon, described as
very positive the
results of his visit to
Panama, with relations
strengthened between the
two countries.
Shortly before returning
to the Island, Alarcon
told Prensa Latina that
during his stay, the
members his delegation
met with Vice President,
Samuel Lewis, and
Panamanian ministers,
legislators and
political leaders.
Alarcon wound up his
visit with a meeting
with Cuban diplomats and
collaborators and
recognized their
essential role in
strengthening links with
Panama.
He particularly inquired
about the literacy
campaign to be launched
in the next few weeks
through the Cuban
teaching method "Yo Si
Puedo" (Yes I Can),
aimed at the
proclamation of the
country as
illiteracy-free by the
UN Education, Science
and Cultural
Organization by 2009.
He highlighted the
importance of a
declaration signed by
the National Assembly of
Panama, condemning the
US blockade against the
Island, demanding the
release of The Five
Cuban anti-terrorist
fighters held in US
prisons and rejecting
the release of
international terrorist
Luis Posada Carriles.
He reiterated the
appreciation for these
positions and said there
are bright prospects for
educational, cultural,
scientific-technological,
sports and economic
cooperation between Cuba
and Panama. |
