Canada Interested in Panama Canal
A delegation from the Canadian Senate said its country is interested in participating in the expansion of the Panama Canal Zone, a project valued at us$5.2 billion, national legislative sources reported on Thursday.

According to a release from the Panamanian National Assembly (Parliament), Canadian Upper House president Noel Kinsella stated that the northern nation s companies want to collaborate with this project, which will start this year.

In October, Panamanians approved through a referendum the construction of three locks to allow passage of larger ships, and modernization to make the canal more competitive.

In a meeting with Panamanian Parliament President Elias Castillo, Kinsella also spoke out for increasing cooperation in the struggle against terrorism.

Kinsella traveled to Panama accompanied by senators William Rompkey and Raynell Andreychuk.

The visit coincides with a meeting in Panama of Canadian diplomats in the region.
