Panama President to US Trade
Talks
Panama s President Martin
Torrijos will travel to the
United States on February 14 to
boost a polemic Free Trade
Agreement (TLC) and explain the
process of the Canal s
extension.
Torrijos will be received by his
US counterpart George W. Bush on
February 2, according to the
presidential office.
The Panamanian head of state
will meet with republican
leaders and democrats in
Congress to defend the TLC,
negotiated by both nations in
2006 but criticized by several
sectors.
Also, he will have meetings with
businessmen to talk about the
building of a third set of locks
in the maritime route, valued at
5,250 million dollars.
This will be the third meeting
between both presidents.
