Nicaragua to Realign Public Schools
Nicaraguan Education Minister Miguel de Castilla announced several changes in public schools for the school year that started January 29.

As first step, the minister appointed by Sandinista President Daniel Ortega on January 10 announced a change of school text books claiming unfit those in use.

De Castilla assures that the new content will be consulted with all the social sectors, including the Human Rights Commission, Parliament and world bodies like UNICEF.

The official said the two million dollar edition will avoid politics except matters linked to the Constitution.

The new strategy also eliminates school tuition, which will bring back nearly 800,000 children whose parents were unable to pay.
