Cellular Lines Go On
Sale Starting Tomorrow
The 300.000 GSM lines
promised by the
Instituto Costarricense
de Electricidad (ICE) go
on sale tomorrow at
ICE's agencies around
the country, however,
some 260.000 of the
lines have already been
spoken for, leaving less
than 40.000 lines
available to those who
have not placed their
name on the waiting
list.
ICE will begin tomorrow
(Monday) to connect
subscribers to the new
lines based on the their
reservation number until
all the names on the
waiting list have had a
chance to connect and
then offer the remaining
lines, if any, on a
first come first served
basis.
According to Claudio
Bermúdez, an ICE
manager, in actuality an
additional 40.000 to
50.000 lines will be
available in addition to
the 300.000 of lines
lost by customers who
did not pay their bills.
Bermúdez said those
lines will be on hold
first attending to the
customers on the waiting
list and then releasing
the lines to meet the
demand.
Those wanting to get
connected starting
tomorrow will have to
have had their name
added to the waiting
list which ICE has been
compiling since last
September by calls made
to the 193 or a visit to
an ICE agency.
ICE expects to connect
some 10.000 customers
each day and expects to
pick up the pace in the
coming weeks.
According to Bermúdez,
the institution will
announce in the print
media the reservation
numbers it will be
attending during the
week. Once a number is
called, the customer has
the opportunity to
connect. Customers do
not have to connect
immediately, the notice
is only to let the
customer know that their
line is available.
To connect, customers
need not visit an ICE
agency, they can do so
also at authorized ICE
retailers. A list of
authorized retailers is
available at
www.grupoice.com.
Customers need to pay
the ¢12.500 colones
deposit, bring their
cellular phone (and
purchase receipt - very
important), a copy a
utility bill and their
cedula. Non residents
cannot subscribe to the
cellular network. |
