December, A Violent Month
The first 10 days of this month of December has been the most violent in many years, as 23 deaths violent were recorded. And there are still many days to go in a month which, although is supposed to be filled with peace and love, records more violent deaths than any other month during the year.

Among the violent acts are heated discussions between couples who have taken to stabbing and shooting at each other to resolve their conflicts, and deaths resulting from traffic accidents, where drinking and driving and speeding are the main contributing factors.

One case of domestic violence which is common during the holiday season is that of Jeannette Cerdas López which was found, half naked, on the sidewalk in Cristo Rey, south of downtown San José, after her former boyfriend stabbed her because she did not want to reconcile.

The 28 year old woman was stabbed in the leg, crying out for help while covering her private parts with her bloodied hands. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.

In an unrelated incident, a 32 year old man identified as Erick Rojas Campos, was admitted to the Hospital San Juan de Dios in delicate condition after his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend decided to shoot him twice.

The incident occurred in Calles Fallas, Desamaparados, south of San José.

In another incident, a known prostitute slashed the jugular of 24 year old Yerry Donald Monge Núñez in muddy circumstances, the man walking through the "red zone", bleeding, seeking help.

The list is too numerous to include every incident and traffic accident death attended to by the Fuerza Pública, the Policía de Tránsito and the Cruz Roja during the last 10 days.

The number represents 5 more deaths than the same period last year.
