Honduran Migrants Die
Chasing US Dream
At least 160 Hondurans
have died so far this
year, mainly in Mexico,
on their illegal journey
to seek better life
alternatives in the
United States, the
Consular Department
revealed.
About 21 people abandon
Honduras every hour
because they don't have
jobs, have few
educational options and
or lack protection,
National Migration Forum
data indicates.
According to several
sources, nearly 80
percent of the 6.3
million inhabitants of
the Central American
nation live in poverty,
a phenomenon that is
worsened by the nation's
poor economic growth and
unequal distribution of
wealth.
US authorities have
deported 27,000
Hondurans so far this
year, or 3,000 more than
in 2006, the Center for
Immigrants noted.have
been seeing patients in
emergency units and
hospital wards. |
