Panama Receives Central
American Pharmacists
Pharmaceutical experts
from 16 Central American
and Caribbean countries
are debating Friday in
Panama how to foster a
legislation to ensure
rational use of
medications and avoid
excessive expense.
Representatives from
Mexico, Guatemala,
Nicaragua, El Salvador,
Honduras, Costa Rica,
Brazil, Argentina, Cuba,
Dominican Republic,
Italy, Switzerland, US,
Spain, Sweden and
Portugal are
participating in the
event that concludes
tomorrow.
Thus far, participants
have supported an
initiative to foster
production of
medications in each
country, minimize costs
for customers and stop
dependence on
transnationals.
The final declaration
will include such
relevant topics as
progress in scientific
and technical
development and their
impact on public health,
participation in forming
government policies and
promoting the profession
