Public Sector Salaries
Increase by 5%
Public sector salaries
will increase by 5%
following an agreement
by the government and
public sector worker
unions. The salary
increase will be
retroactive to July 1,
when the bi-annual
salary increases take
effect.
The increase will affect
some 150.000 public
sector employees.
The unions had demanded
an increase of 6.38%
while the government has
stood firm on 4%. The
increase which was
applicable to salaries
on July 1 did not occur
while the government and
unions discussed the
difference.
For the Asociación
Nacional de Empleados
Públicos y Privados (ANEP)
the 5% increase is a
victor, according to
ANEP general manager,
Edgar Morales, who was
content to see the
government give in the
extra 1%.
