21 de la Suerte Is Back
Following an absence in the marker, the lottery game "21 de la Suerte" will be back on sale beginning tomorrow, and at a lower price than before.

The lottery was pulled from the streets when it was challenge by the Junta de Protección Social de San José (JPS), the official lottery people, who claimed that 21 did not have authority to operate the lottery.

However, while the legal battle continues, 21 is back with a bang, offering the same prizes of vehicles and appliances, it will cost a lot less than the original ¢2.000 colones per ticket, which was dropped to a 2 for 1 before suspending sales all together.

Zanoni Tavares said tha the lower ticket prices is a reflection of the people not being able to afford the previous high ticket prices and that the losses during the closing of the lottery are substantial.

Gloria Navas, lawyer for 21 de la Suerte, insists that the lottery is operating legally. Howerve, the JPS has filed charges against the lottery with the Ministerio Público, claiming that the lottery violates the Ley de Rifas y Loterías (lottery and raffle code).

The problem between 21 de la Suere and the JPS goes back some time, as the lottery says it receieved a permit to operate from the JPS board of directors, while the general manager of the JPS says that he is the only one who can give out the permit. A dispute between the JPS board and its general manager was never resolved.

The lottery will hold a draw today, raffling off the prizes from the last draw and the new draws will begin on May 14.

Today's draw and all future draws will be held live on television channels 13, 14 and 33 (not on cable) and on Radio Nacional.
