More Gasoline Prices Hikes On
The Way
Gasoline prices have been
spiralling upwards in the past
couple of months and there seems
to be no end in sight, as the
Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope) made another
request for an increase on the
heels of the latest price hikes
that went into effect yesterday.
The price at the pumps for super
gasoline jumped ¢16 colones at
the 12:01am Thursday and hours
later, Recope made anothe formal
request to the Autoridad
Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep) for another
hike of ¢34 colones per litre.
The Aresep has 15 days to
respond to the request.
But, that doesn't end there. A
price hike of ¢16 colones for a
litre of regular gasoline was
approved last week and has been
published in today's edition of
La Gaceta - the official
government publication - meaning
the hike will take effect at the
stroke of midnight tonight.
The current price of regular
gasoline is ¢493 colones and
will jump to ¢509 for tomorrow.
Super gasoline just saw an
increase to ¢533 and will jump
to ¢567, almost reaching a high
of ¢597 last August.
