Two quakes shake southern Peru, no casualties
Two moderate earthquakes shook southern Peru on Friday, causing landslides and disrupting cell phone access, but no victims were reported.

The first quake, measuring 4.7 degrees on the Richter scale, took place at 9.09 a.m. local time (1409 GMT) and the second, measuring 4.3 degrees on the Richter scale, followed 38 minutes afterwards, said the Peruvian Geophysical Institute.

The epicenters of both quakes were near Mollendo, a coastal region in Arequipa department.

Local authorities have sent machines to clear roads. Residents of Arequipa and neighboring Tacna department, which borders Chile, felt the quakes.
