Venezuela Powers up Nicaragua
Nicaragua began to receive on
Friday the 60 megawatts planned
in the framework of the
Bolivarian Alternative for the
Americas (ALBA), with the last
power-station complex
connection.
Mario Gutierrez, the Cuban
engineer in charge of
installation and assembly of the
32 power stations, said that
these are the first
synchronization tests to deliver
the 15 remaining megawatts.
He recalled that the first
eight-station plant, which has a
total 15-megawatt generation
capacity, began to operate on
February 15.
Since then, Gutierrez asserted,
the Las Brisas stations, which
were named after the capital s
neighborhood where they are
located, have generated 4,700
megawatts per hour in the hours
of greater demand.
The three other generators were
installed in Los Brasiles, 6
miles northeast from Managua.
According ton the Cuban expert,
the batteries One and Two on
that site were synchronized with
the national generating system
during March 27-30 respectively,
and supply 30 megawatts.
The 60 megawatts to be supplied
by the German generators cover
half of the Nicaraguan current
generation deficit.
Arrival of 32 another power
stations from Cuba is expected
in September, Nicaraguan
President Daniel Ortega
announced recently.
