Russia-Cuba Talks and Signing of
Accords
First Cuban Vice President Raul
Castro and Russian head of
government Mihail Fradkov held
talks today and later presided
over the signing of five
bilateral documents.
Both officials were present at
the signing ceremony in the
Palace of the Revolution of the
agreement on the restructuring
of Cuban debt to the Russian
Federation, made up of credits
issued years ago by Russia to
the island.
Government minister Ricardo
Cabrisas signed the document on
the part of Cuba, while the
deputy minister of Finance Anton
Silvanov did so on the Russian
part.
Both officials also signed the
agreement by which Russis
extends Cuba a state credit to
finance imports of goods and
services from Russia.
Also, the first Deputy Minister
of the Cuban Armed Forces, Julio
Casas Regueiro and the director
of the Russian Federal Service
for Technical-Military
Collaboration, Mijail Dimitriev,
signed a technical-military
cooperation agreement.
President of the National Bank
of Cuba, Irma Martinez Castellon
and director of the
Vnesheconombank of Russia, Irina
Andreeva signed an agreement
between both banks as part of
the restructuring of the Cuban
debt to Russia.
Both officials also signed a
technical banking agreement to
put into effect the state credit
offered to Cuba by the Russian
Federation.
At the official ceremony also
attended on the Cuban part, the
Vice President of the State
Council, Carlos Lage and the
Foreign Relations minister
Felipe Perez Roque.
The representation of the island
also included the minister of
Basic Industry, Yadira Garcia,
the president of the Cuban
Institute of Civil Aeronautics,
Rogelio Acevedo, the deputy FM
Eumelio Caballero and the
ambassador to Russia, Jorge
Marti.
After the signing ceremony, the
heads of both delegations placed
a flower offering at the
memorial to the Cuban national
hero Jose Marti in this capital.
Fradkov will also place another
flower offering at the Memorial
to the Soviet Internationalist
Soldier.
The official program also
includes a visit to the Havana
International Transport Fair,
where 70-odd Russian companies
are represented, among them
giant corporations like KAMAZ,
Gazel and Lada.
The head of the Russian
executive´s program also
includes a visit to the Center
of Genetic Engineering and
Biotechnology.
