Venezuela for the South in UN
Venezuela proposed establishing
within the Security Council a
Consensus of the South replacing
Washington's and reaffirmed his
country's right to a membership.
Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro
said the strategy would be part
of a new world free of
imperialist hegemony, wars and
subjugation of the peoples.
Maduro said on the TV program En
Confianza, of Venezolana de
Television, that it would meet
the hopes of millions of people
in defense of peace, equality,
solidarity and respect for
development.
The official said recent
statements by US Secretary of
States Condoleezza Rice are part
of her country s anti-Venezuela
drive.
Rice proved the existence of two
views: the United States
deciding who deserves Security
Council membership, and the rest
of the world.
Nicolas Maduro also reaffirmed
his country's right to
membership, adding that he will
travel to the US again Thursday
and Friday despite his recent
detention at the New York
airport.
He said Venezuela submitted an
official complaint at the US
embassy in Caracas urging to
guarantee respect for
international rights.
