Cuban Unions Close with Vital Issues
The last session of the 19th Congress of the Central Workers Union of Cuba (CTC), taking place in this capital, is due to analyze Wednesday short term relevant issues for the country s social-economic development.

The energy revolution, housing construction program, and economic efficiency are priority issues for Cuban unionists meeting in this capital since Sunday.

Over 1,400 union delegates must elect today the new CTC National Secretariat, who will lead the organization over the next five years.

Cuban First Vice President Raul Castro attended Tuesday the first day of the Congress plenary session along with other members of the Political Board of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee, ministers and union leaders.

The main report of the meeting states that the world is living a historic moment and, while Latin American grass-root and social movements are advancing, recognition of Cuba is increasing and United States is plunged into a political and moral crisis.

The text also call for stepping up and improving the workers preparedness to fulfill tasks for national defense, and pay attention to US barbarian forays into other parts of the world.

Business improvement, energy conservation and efficiency, boosted discipline and proper use of resources, were all addressed to produce with larger quality and lesser cost.

The island s Council of Ministers members responded to delegates concerns and gave updated information on domestic programs.

The CTC was founded on January 28, 1939, as a result of Cubans historic struggles for the syndicalized unity.

This organization, with 96 percent of the island s workers, has contributed to boost the constant revolutionary transformation of the country.
