Costa Rica Continues to Fall in
FIFA World Rankings
Costa Rica saw its FIFA world
ranking continue to drop as the
latest issue was released this
week, falling six points to 53rd
among 205 national teams.
Costa Rica's slide began in July
with a 19-place fall, from 26 to
45, after the national team was
knocked out in the first round
of the World Cup in Germany. In
August, the team fell further to
47.
Brazil still holds onto the
number one ranking, followed by
France, Argentina, England and
reigning world champion Italy.
Other CONCACAF member teams also
fell in the FIFA rankings.
Mexico dropped one seat to 17th,
while the United States slumped
from 23rd to 29th.
Both were in the world's top 10
prior to the 2006 World Cup.
Mexico, the US and Costa Rica
are the top three in the region.
Trinidad and Tobago is ranked
56th worldwide, Guatemala -
66th; Cuba - 69th; Canada -
71st; Panama - 74th; Jamaica -
77th; Honduras - 100th.
