Porteadores To Protest Tuesday
The Porteadores - informal taxi drivers - announced that they will take to the streets again this Tuesday.

The 85 private companies that make up the bulk of the "porteadores" say that they will take to the streets to pressure the government into action, following promises made to them by Karla González, minister of Transportes.

"The protest will be totally peacefull and we ask the collaboration of Tránsito (traffic police) to avoid problems", said Victor Salazar, president of the Cámara de Porteadores.

The main points to gather are: León XIII, Pavas, Parque de La Paz, Cartago, Alajuela, Naranjo, Sarchí, Jacó, Liberia, Quepos, Palmares and Nicoya.

The Porteadores will then move to the Asamblea Legislative in downtown San José,

Salazar added that with them 200 children - sons and daughters of the Porteadores - will accompany them so that they can hear first hand from the country's legislators why they want to take away their parents livelihood.

This protest will larger that the last. Some 8.000 are expected to take part in Tuesday's protest, which like the protest of two weeks ago, will cause slowdowns on some main thoroughfares and complete blockage of others.

In the last protest, the Porteadores did not stop the protest until Transport minister, González, issued a statement that a commission would analyze the law that pretends to eliminate the "porteo" - the informal taxi activity.

Forma taxi drivers have been waiting patiently on the government's decision and have vowed to protest if the Porteo is not eliminated and the Porteadores are allowed to continue.
