Menchu: Evo Visit to Guatemala Historic
The indigenous leader and Nobel Peace prizewinner Rigoberta Menchu described the recent visit by Bolivian President Evo Morales to her country as “historic” for the encouragement and enthusiasm he left with the Guatemalan population.

"I participated in several meetings between Morales and the social, indigenous, and leftwing leaders and I liked his message, the call to boost dialogue and unity and to respect our own diversity," Menchu told Prensa Latina.

The Bolivian president carried out a brief but fruitful visit to that Central American country, at the invitation of the Latin American Indigenous Fund that held its seventh Assembly with representatives from 22 nations.

Evo Morales also met with Presidents Oscar Berger (Guatemala), Manuel Zelaya (Honduras), and Enrique Bolanos (Nicaragua).

Rigoberta Menchu expressed her hope that the Fund becomes an integral tool for the Latin American peoples and that through it governments channel the populations´ aspirations.
