Polls Show Ortega Ahead in Nicaragua
Nicaraguan former President Daniel Ortega, leader of the FSLN (Sandinista National Liberation Front) is the favorite to win the November presidential elections, reports a poll by Zogby International and Miami University .

Most polls confirm Ortega's popularity, and Zogby's gave the FSLN general secretary a 15-point lead over his closest rival, dissident Liberal Eduardo Montealegre.

The survey, from September 1 to 5, involved 800 potential voters asked whom they would vote for if the elections were held today.

Ortega garnered 34 percent, Montealegre 19 percent, Jose Rizo from the Liberal Constitutional party 13, Edmundo Jarquin, Sandinista Renovator Movement 10 percent, and Eden Pastora from Alternative for Change received 1 percent.

Zogby online reported one percent of voters would choose another candidate, other than among these five, while 23 percent are undecided.

The same poll showed an 87 percent rejection of outgoing Liberal President Enrique Bolanos.

To win on the first round, the next president must win by over 35 percent of fair votes and have at least a five point lead over the runner up.
