Textiles Lose Ground
For the first time ever, Costa
Rican exports of textiles
dropped to the third slot in the
ranking of sales abroad
according to income.
The Costa Rican Foreign Trade
Promoter (PROCOMER in Spanish)
disclosed that the sales from
the textile industry during the
first seven months this year
reached us$283 million, far
behind those of components for
computers and bananas, which
place first and second,
respectively, and above
pineapples, which sold us$247
million.
According to sector sources, the
current situation results from
the fact that the Free Trade
Agreement with the United States
has not been approved by
Congress.
